What is that? We call them "KasKas" here and the rest of the world knows them by "Bandicoot." They are like a big rat with no fur on their tails and live in the trees. The local people bring different animals to us hoping we'll buy them. |
Some have asked about new believers in our area. Here is a letter I recently received from one of the families we supply with our boat.
"Greeting again from Papua New Guinea,
This past year has been the best year ever for the work in the Solong tribe.
So many exciting things have been happening.
Our newest group of believers on the Island of Kauptumete now have between
60 and 70 believers, and 3 of them really stand out as specially gifted and
natural leaders. They have shown a real heart of wanting to serve the Lord.
Over the past months, I have spent many hours with them doing discipleship
and teacher training.
Recently one of these men named Aisam, who for years had been an Anglican was helping me teach a portion of the days Bible lesson, and while teaching he made the following statement...
"I have been your priest here for so many years I can't even count them
all. But I never really understood the Bible until this year. The missionary
is teaching us the Bible in a way that all of us can clearly understand and
my eyes have finally been opened. A lot of you are still in the dark like I
was, so you need to listen and give your heart to this talk, because it is
the truth."

I thought you'd be interested in hearing what Mariko has been up to. Here's what she wrote to a friend.
"Hey guess what?
Yesterday when I was washing GH laundry I saw a snake! I was stunned at first but when I realized what was happening it was gone. Then I hated myself for not catching it. Then I told everyone. I came back to do laundry and my cat Smoky was jumping up and down so I went to see what it was and I saw the snake. I called my Mom and she was freaked...she was screaming, "kill it with the knife!" to Jared. I shewed the cat away and grabbed it's tail and swung it around in circles so the G force would hold it's head away from me then I finally grabbed its head. My mom was freaked! It was soo cool, and fun but we had to let it go. It was 4 and a half feet long. I caught it in our yard with my bare hands.
Well I got to go, Bye.
