Prayer Letter Archive

May 2003

Dear Friends,

I just read over my last letter to you and see much has changed since then. At that time, we hadn't had a barge but thankfully a few have come in with supplies and needed fuel. Also, the seas are no longer calm making boat runs a bit more unsettling in the stomach area. Our phone had come back on but now it's down again. I'm grateful for the radio modem I'm borrowing which allows me to send e-mails.

You can be praying for safety on the road. The government has no funds for much of anything. One thing that is suffering which affects me is the roads. Not that the dirt roads were ever kept up very well but now, they get no attention. The boards over the bridges are rotted making river crossings a time of tension…particularly if your wife is along.

We recently had our yearly conference with fellow missionaries. It was a good time meeting people who have been on the field for years that we had never met but knew their voices from hearing them on the radio. The reports of what's going on in the various tribal locations was encouraging. Not only are many coming to know the LORD, but others are interested and national Pastors are doing much of the Bible teaching.

The Churches are interacting with each other although they are a days hike apart from each other. We recently helped out two Churches in a food exchange. One Church from the interior sent out baskets of potatoes to a Church on an island that reciprocated by sending dried fish, shells and live turtles. The turtles were the highlight.

Well, I've got to get going on my taxes and as I do, I'm reminded of your faithfulness in giving towards and praying for our ministry here.

Thank you.

Love, Mark and Joan Reichman
