Mark and Joan's HistoryMark is from Joliet, Illinois and Joan is from Wahiawa, Hawaii. They were married in February of 1980 and have 4 children (Micah 8/7/85; Jared 4/18/90; Mariko 3/30/92; Mieko 2/20/96). The Reichmans have been missionaries with New Tribes Mission and have been living in Papua New Guinea since January 1986.
When the Reichmans first arrived in PNG, they lived in a village on the south coast of the island of New Britian. The house was made from materials from the jungle and donned a grass roof. Rain water was collected for drinking and bathing. Electrical power was supplied by a generator and the refrigerator operated from kerosene. There was no telephone or TV service, but they could watch videos that folks were kind enough to send. YES, they did have indoor plumbing. Unfortunately, termites eventually ate the house. So, after milling their own timber and using a chain saw and portable saw mill, the Reichmans built a new house in October of 1996 in the town of Kandrian, where they reside today. You can be a part of Mark and Joan's work. They can be helped by your prayers and interest and financial support if you are led to help in that way. It is a trying and stressful ministry at times and they would deeply appreciate your involvement in their lives. Their e-mail address is mark_reichman@ntm.org.
