Faith in the Jungle - May 2015

Thank you so much for your love and prayers for us and our Hewa friends. We are deeply grateful for your part in sharing the love of Jesus with the Hewa tribal people of Papua New Guinea.

Our village hosted a “Grand Opening” party for our new airstrip last month, and there were about 400 people in attendance! Hewa people came from many of the nearest villages to join us for a huge feast that included 14 pigs we baked in a 50+ foot ground oven! Our village was glad to host this party as it gave us an opportunity to connect with many villagers who we would normally rarely see.

We were proud of the believers as they decided they wanted to take the opportunity to teach the guests that arrived from other villages. The Bible teachers divided themselves among every house for the four days of the party so they could hold evening Bible studies. We also showed the Jesus Film, which brought an enthusiastic response.

As soon as the party was finished, many of our villagers asked Susan and her teacher trainees to continue teaching literacy. Susan and her group returned to teaching daily classes for more than 75 faithful students. It is amazing to see how the learning fever has continued to grow and flourish with the children and adults of our village.

We have been planning our next six month furlough and have purchased tickets to return to the USA on July 26. We are excited to be able to attend 50th wedding anniversary celebrations for both our parents (Kopfs in ID and Kings in FL) and also attend Mikayla’s graduation from college (CA) and Micah’s graduation from combat medic training with the Army (TX). This is going to be a busy furlough with lots of traveling, but we would like find an apartment near BIOLA University so we can assist Mikayla as she finishes her last semester of pre-med classes. If anyone knows of accommodations in or near La Mirada, CA, please let us know.

Praise and Prayer

  • Praise the Lord for the continued learning fever in Hewa.
  • Pray for Mikayla because she continues to suffer back pain while attending University. Praise the Lord she has been able to maintain dean’s list despite her health.
  • Pray for Micah as he is now in boot camp preparing to become a combat medic with the Army.
  • Pray for the upcoming evangelistic outreaches to the villages of Yano and Wite. There have been several snags that have postponed the start dates, but the villagers are continuing to express their desire for men to come teach them the Gospel as soon as the details are worked out.

Thank you for your love and prayers! We deeply appreciate your part in reaching out to the Hewa tribal people with the Love of Jesus.
