News - Guided By His Hand

February 2017

Dear Friends,

Thank you so much for your faithful prayers. Although much of the last several months has been very stressful, I was so happy to be able to visit my dear friend Keri in California this month! It was a joy to spend some time with my previous co-worker and her family once again. Keri and I had worked in PNG together for 13 years, so it was fun to catch up on the past several months of life and reminisce on the past a little bit!! In spite of rain and floods, we were able to get out and do some fun things too! It was a much-needed break after many months of stress and doctor’s appointments!!

Just before I left for California, I saw my neurologist and was informed that my Multiple Sclerosis is still very active. I have had a lot of “hoops” to jump through with more medical tests and many phone calls with medical personnel and the insurance company etc. However, today I was finally able to start on MS medication—the beginning of a life-long journey. I’m praying that these new meds will work well and that I will have very little side effects. I guess I’ll see after a few days!

I will need to remain here in Canada for another 6 months and will have my blood checked each month to make sure that the meds are not causing any negative reaction in my body. Lord willing, I will be cleared to return to PNG around September. Not sure if they will let me return for a whole year or just 6 months, but I have a ton of work to do and I’m anxious to see my friends in PNG again! My greatest desire is to see the Mengen New Testament brought to completion. While I am home, I am continuing to draft out the final 3 NT books. Currently I’m working on 1+2 Peter and will finish up my translation work with Hebrews. I would sure appreciate your prayers that the Lord would give me strength and grace to finish the task He has given me.

Please Pray:

  • For little (or no) negative reactions to my new MS medication!
  • For good quiet times where I can concentrate and make progress in my Bible translation work.
  • For clear direction for the future. I’m kind of in limbo at the moment, trying to focus on my work in PNG but also thinking about what the future holds in regards to my medical situation.
  • Pray that I would be able to let go and trust that the Lord knows best and He will work out every detail of my life in His timing.
  • Praise the Lord that I was able to take a quick trip to California. Pray for Keri and her parents as they get ready to move to Texas. Such a huge change for them in the days ahead.
  • Praise the Lord for the faithfulness of our 4 Mengen missionary families and pray that the Lord would continue to protect them and provide for their needs (physical and spiritual).

Thanks so much for your encouraging notes and emails and especially for your prayers.

Standing on the promises of Christ my King,
