News - Guided By His Hand

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine,
according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory …. forever and ever! Amen.

Thank you so much for your faithful prayer for me, throughout my past 16 years (almost), in Papua New Guinea. It has been such a crazy adventure every step of the way, and this past month has been no exception. I’m so thankful that our Heavenly Father is with me always and guides me continually by His gracious hand.

KERI: It hardly seems real, but only about 5 weeks ago, Keri found out that she was needed at home and within a short time, she was packed and on her way to California. We had worked together for 13 years, so it has been a difficult time for me personally, as I come to terms with it all. Although she’s not here in PNG, she will continue to be an “unofficial” part of our team as she helps with Bible translation from a distance!!



JACK: Last week, I had 2 Mengen visitors join me here at our mission’s center. The one guy named Jack has been very sick and people were concerned that he might die. Because we don’t have adequate medical facilities in the jungle, it was determined that this man needed to come out to the hospital in town. Thankfully there was a plane coming into our village that week, so Jack and his nephew Alex were able to go out quickly.

Jack is not a believer and has actually been against the Bible teaching for many years. In fact, he has played a role in persecuting the Mengen church, so needless to say, I wasn’t sure how it was going to go with having him here. I was relieved to hear that Alex was coming along, as he is one of our Bible teachers and a really good guy. (Alex has helped me with Bible translation from time to time and I appreciate him a lot.)

It’s a long story and I’ll spare you the details, but it was amazing to see at work throughout this whole week. Our time at the hospital went very smoothly, and in record time, Jack was diagnosed with a degenerative disc in his back. Super painful, but not life-threatening, much to our relief. During their 7 days out of the village, Alex had many opportunities to witness to his uncle. The Lord also brought along Christian men from other villages who also gave a word of testimony. It didn’t take very long before he started asking questions about the Bible and Alex was able to talk with him many hours about spiritual things.

Apparently when Jack returned home, he has stated clearly that he desires to start coming to the Bible teaching (for the very first time in 8 years)! He has also severed ties to his previous religion which is a HUGE step, as he begins to recognize their false teaching. Pray with us that the Lord would continue to work in this man’s heart and cause him to hunger and thirst after righteousness. Pray too that nothing would hinder him from attending the Bible lessons, and that his wife would choose to come along with him. His young son Obet has attended several Bible classes and his married daughter Imelda is also hearing the teaching for the first time. Our hearts are burdened for this family, so pray for them that as they hear God’s Word, their hearts would be soft and that they would accept the miraculous gift of salvation.

FLANAGANS: This past week, the Flanagans heard that their daughter Karis will have her open heart surgery on Sept. 8. I know they would appreciate your prayers during this scary time. Little Karis is just 1 year old and has been through a lot in her young life. Pray for wisdom for the doctors and that the surgery would go smoothly. Lord willing, this will correct what’s wrong in her heart and that she will be well and healthy once the procedure is over.

Thanks so much for standing with me as I serve here in Papua New Guinea. I am so thankful for you all. Thanks for being an integral part of reaching the Mengen for Christ.
