News - Guided By His Hand

January 2015

Dear friends,

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow. Because He lives, all fear is gone.
Because I know he holds the future, and life is worth the living, just because He lives.

Thank you so very much for your faithful prayers and financial support for me over this past year! I have appreciated you all so much and thank the Lord for your integral part in reaching the Mengen for Christ. This year has been full of change, but I am thankful to the Lord for bringing me through each and every challenge.

This coming year is going to be another busy one, as I press on with the work here in Papua New Guinea.

Bible Translation

In December, I was able to wrap up 7 books of the Bible, and pass them over to our translation consultant for his perusal. Then, coming up in April, Lord willing those 7 books will undergo their final check and we’ll be able to print them! Whew! So exciting to see these new books of the Bible going into the hands of the Mengen people:

1+2 Thessalonians, 1+2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon and 1 Corinthians

In the course of translation, I have had around 10 Mengen believers helping me with various stages of the process. It was a joy to see them go away thrilled and excited to hear these “new” books in their own language! Makes every long day I spent hunched over my computer, absolutely worth it, to see our believers’ enthusiasm for God’s Word!

In the days ahead, I’ll begin to work on the books of Galatians, Philippians and Colossians. The journey is LONG and will take many months to complete, but the reward is sweet as we see our Mengen friends reading God’s Word and applying it to their lives!

Leaving on a Jet Plane

Just a few days ago, I purchased tickets for coming home for the summer. I am SO excited to see everyone again, even for just a few weeks. This is not considered a regular “Home Assignment” for me, but will be a nice break in the middle of my term. I’ll be able to get a few needs taken care of like a trip to the doctor to have my thyroid checked, and to the dentist to get a wisdom tooth pulled. However, most importantly it will be a joy to see friends and family again. I’ll be home for 10 weeks, and will split my time between California, Alberta, and Connecticut! Should be an amazing summer and I’m looking forward to it a lot.

Big Change

This last month brought another end of an era for me. After 13 years of living in the jungle, I have decided to relocate to our mission’s center at Hoskins. You may recall that all 3 families on my team are currently in their home countries, and Keri has returned to the USA to take care of her family. So…I felt like the time was right for me to make the move! Of course, I’ll still visit the village from time to time once my teammates return, as I continue to press on with Bible translation. However, the majority of my time will be spent at Hoskins in the weeks and months ahead.

Thanks so much for standing with me! I appreciate you all so much.
