News - Guided By His Hand

November 2016

I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it.
God does it so that men will revere him.

Dear Friends,

Thanks so much for your prayers and encouraging emails over the past few weeks. Just two months ago, I arrived back in Canada and have been “enjoying” a medical furlough ever since. Praise the Lord that I have not had anymore major flare-ups of Multiple Sclerosis since being home. In just a couple of weeks, I have an appointment to see the neurologist, so I’m excited and anxious to get my questions answered and to get started on medication at long last.

Please pray that I would quickly be able to get started on medication and would not have to wait a long time for new MRIs or other medical tests.

In the meantime, I am visiting my sister and her family and having a great time. Wow, her 4 kids have sure grown up in a hurry. It’s so strange to have 2 teenagers in the house now, but fun to see them all maturing and becoming young adults.

Also during these days away from Papua New Guinea, I am trying to find a few quiet minutes each day to work on the Mengen Bible translation. At the moment I am drafting out the book of John. It has been encouraging to see some small progress being made even though I’m out of my normal routine!! I know the Mengen believers are waiting anxiously for me to finish the Bible Translation, so that excites me and spurs me on!! Plus I love it a lot, so it’s a joy and not a burden for me to do the work!!

And speaking of the Mengen church…there are many exciting things happening these days!! Our second major outreach is going well, with people hiking in long-distance to hear the Bible teaching. Every session is packed full of people with many people sitting outside their meeting house! God is at work in the hearts of many people and it is neat to see “our” original believers going out as missionaries to their own people!

Please pray for Edward and Francesca and their 3 little ones as they serve the Lord in a new village, far from home. I’m sure they are exhausted as they teach Bible lessons several times a week and do discipleship around the clock! They are also very busy teaching literacy classes and have had 50 people sign up for the first ‘round’. Wow, 50 people anxious to learn to read and write!! Edward and Francesca have divided everyone into groups of 15, and people are almost fighting to see who can go to school first!! Another reason to keep pushing on with Bible translation, so that these people will be able to read God’s Word in their own language!!

Several weeks ago, churches from 4 different language groups came together for a big Bible conference. God is so amazing that it really brings tears to my eyes! I can’t wait to stand before the throne in heaven with people from every tribe, tongue and nation!! The Mengen, Nakanai, Mamusi and Ata had a little taste of that already as they worshipped the Lord with song and testimonies and terrific Bible teaching! A little taste of heaven. Wish I could have been there, but it’s special to see the Papua New Guinean churches moving ahead completely on their own without missionary input!!

Happy Thanksgiving to you all from here in Connecticut!! I’m so grateful to the Lord for allowing me to be involved with the Mengen church. I am also so thankful all of you who faithful support me financially and with your prayers. I could not be doing this job without your involvement with me.

With Thanksgiving!!
