October 2013

Hey friends!

October has already been an interesting month:

Presidents’ Gathering--Early last week I travelled to Kansas City on Monday and back on Tuesday for a gathering of Bible college presidents (from the Association for Biblical Higher Education; www.abhe.org). Being with 20 presidents was a very encouraging and informative experience. I developed and furthered a number of relationships, including a relationship with another president and school to develop an “articulation agreement”, which would allow students to transfer there knowing how many credits they would receive. I also sat next to the president of ABHE and talked with him about our application to enter the accreditation process this Fall; he expressed his great enthusiasm for this!

Kickoff Kampout--While I was still in Kansas City I found out that our annual Kickoff Kampout, the all-school camping trip, was going to have to be relocated due to the government shutdown (the four previous years have all been at Lake Powell/Glen Canyon by the Arizona-Utah border)! We had two days’ notice to find a new place for 50 people to camp, play, worship, and study together for four days. To make it extra interesting: this was the first year I had handed of the planning and leadership of the camp to our student life team (Dean of Students Clint Ross and Dean of Women Coreen Esplin). They did an AMAZING job planning and executing the camp, which ended up being an hour south of Flagstaff at an RV park. Sarah and I joined them for the day on Saturday, Sarah spent the day with her discipleship group and I taught in the morning and evening group times.

“Grandparents’ Month”—For the third year in a row, my mom and dad spent five weeks teaching one class each during our first term; English Composition III and Old Testament Prophetic Books, respectively. They taught during the week and then spent each weekend helping us with projects around or home and/or giving Sarah and I time away together (we jokingly call this “date month”). We are now delighted to have Sarah’s parents here with us for a week! Our kids are getting a full double-dose of grandparents, which is great since we live 1300 miles away from the nearest family member!

A few prayer requests:

  • Please pray for Sarah as she continues to invest a lot of time and emotional energy in her discipling ministries (three times a week). Particularly, helping women heal from past sexual abuse is especially taxing and grievous…
  • Please pray for myself and the board as we have currently some exciting expansion opportunities in front of us; pray for clear direction as we make significant decisions.

Thank you for standing with us! We so appreciate your prayers and support,

Jason and family

P.S. A preview of coming attractions: we plan to have Sarah write the November update!
